Choosing the right amount of time on a boat is one of the most important parts of planning your Lake Como experience.

At My Como Boat Tours, we believe there is no single “perfect” duration for everyone. It depends on your budget, your schedule, how much of Lake Como you want to see, and whether you would like time to swim, have lunch, or explore the towns on foot.

One thing is certain: there is never enough of Lake Como.

Our best seller: the 2-hour Lake Como boat tour

Our 2-hour tour is the most popular choice — and for good reason. It is ideal if you want to enjoy the lake’s most iconic sights without spending a whole day on the water.

In two hours, we can cover many of the most famous villas in the central part of Lake Como, enjoy beautiful scenery, and stop for a refreshing swim when conditions allow.

You can also admire one of the most photographed places on the lake: the Orrido di Nesso waterfall and the historic Ponte della Civera bridge. The waterfall is created where the Tuf and Nosè streams meet before dropping into a dramatic gorge, while the bridge has ancient origins and was rebuilt in the Middle Ages.

You may have seen this beautiful location all over social media. Many visitors used to jump from the bridge into the lake. However, local rules are now more strictly enforced, and jumping from the bridge can result in a €500 fine.

The good news? You can still enjoy the beauty of the waterfall from the boat, and swimming nearby may be possible when weather, water conditions, and safety allow. Your skipper will always advise you on the best and safest option during the tour.

A two-hour experience is perfect for:

  • First-time visitors to Lake Como

  • Couples looking for a romantic cruise

  • Guests with limited time

  • Families and small groups(up to 11 guests Boat Amore, up to 6 guests Boat Marinello)

  • Anyone who would like a scenic, relaxed experience with time for a swim

Want to see more? Choose 3.5 to 4 hours

If you would like to explore more of the central lake, we recommend a 3.5- to 4-hour boat tour.

With this additional time, we can continue beyond the main central highlights and discover more of Lake Como’s famous towns and villas, including:

  • Varenna, with views of Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi

  • Villa La Gaeta, famous for appearing in Casino Royale

  • Menaggio, one of the lake’s elegant western-shore towns

  • Bellagio, known for its beautiful waterfront, villas, gardens, and charming streets

Villa La Gaeta is especially popular with film lovers. The final scene of Casino Royale was filmed there, when Daniel Craig’s James Bond says the iconic line: “The name’s Bond. James Bond.” The official James Bond 007 website confirms that this scene was filmed at Villa La Gaeta near San Siro and Menaggio.

Our honest advice: add a lunch stop

We always want to be honest with our guests: spending four hours continuously on a boat can feel long, especially on very hot days or when travelling with children.

That is why the best way to enjoy a longer tour is to add a one-hour lunch stop.

We know wonderful lakeside restaurants and bars with private or accessible piers, so you can comfortably arrive by boat, enjoy lunch or an aperitivo, and continue your Lake Como adventure afterward.

A lunch stop gives you the chance to:

  • stretch your legs

  • enjoy Italian food by the lake. You can check our recommendtaions here (Click on it)

  • take photos from a different perspective

  • relax and recharge before continuing the cruise

  • make the day feel more complete and unhurried

Feeling extra? Add time to explore the towns

If you have more time and would like a fuller Lake Como experience, add one or two extra hours to your tour.

This gives you the opportunity to get off the boat and take a walk through one or two towns of your choice. You might choose:

  • Bellagio for its elegant lanes, boutiques, and waterfront

  • Varenna for its romantic promenade and colourful streets

  • Menaggio for a relaxed lakeside aperitivo

  • another destination based on your interests and route

This option is ideal for guests who do not only want to see Lake Como from the water, but also want time to experience its villages at a slower pace.

The full-day Lake Como experience: 8 to 9 hours

For those who want it all, a full-day 8- to 9-hour private boat tour is the ultimate Lake Como experience.

A full day gives you time to see the famous places, discover quieter corners, stops for a swim, enjoy lunch, and explore towns without watching the clock.

Depending on your chosen route, you can enjoy:

  • the central lake’s most famous villas

  • Bellagio, Varenna, and Menaggio

  • the Orrido di Nesso waterfall and Ponte della Civera

  • Villa La Gaeta

  • scenic swimming stops

  • charming villages and lakeside restaurants

  • views of villas associated with George Clooney and other Lake Como icons

  • hidden corners that are difficult to appreciate from land

This is the best choice for guests celebrating a special occasion, travelling with family or friends, or simply wanting to make the most of a once-in-a-lifetime visit to Lake Como.

So, how long should your boat tour be?

Here is our simple recommendation:

  • 2 hours: Best for the essential Lake Como highlights, famous villas, Nesso waterfall views, and a possible swim stop.

  • 3.5–4 hours: Best for a wider central-lake itinerary, including Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio, and Villa La Gaeta.

  • 4–5 hours with lunch: Best for a more relaxed and balanced experience.

  • 6–7 hours: Best if you want to combine sightseeing, swimming, lunch, and time in a town.

  • 8–9 hours: Best for a complete, unhurried Lake Como day on the water.

Your ideal tour depends on your time, budget, energy, and travel style. But whether you choose two hours or a full day, Lake Como is always best enjoyed from the water.
